In Spring 2021 we lost a big part of our family – Uda.
Tears still flow as I write this. He really meant so much and taught us even more.
He was a proud stallion and the ultimate leader. He left lasting impressions on everyone he met, was the naughty colt tamer and a big presence with the gentlest soul.
Every single horse chose him as their leader and not because he was aggressive or demanded it, but because he earned their respect.
So I thought I would share with you some of the lessons I learnt watching his leadership approach.
- Stay calm in a storm. It will give the rest of the herd confidence.
- Be strong and proud. Your presence and how you make others feel matters, so be mindful of your vibe.
- Have clear boundaries. Communicate to make them black and white. This way everyone knows where they stand.
- Protect your bucket. If your bucket isn’t full, you can’t give to others. Make sure you’re fed mentally, physically and emotionally - it will set the tone for the rest of the herd.
- Stay humble and kind. Be kind to the little people, even if you think they can’t offer much. One day they will become big people and the ones you rely on.
- Be fierce in protecting your herd. Always have the best interests of the herd in mind. Have vision, lead as you’d want to follow, and have their back.
