If so check out our tips on how to rid yourself of these negative thoughts and turn them into positive self-talk.
1. Choose a negative thought that's stopping you from succeeding.
For example;
"I'm forever making mistakes."
"I'm not as good, as the others"
"People don't like me."
2. Write down a positive that counteracts the negative thought.
For example;
"I'm experienced and capable"
"I'm an amazing athlete and strong competitor"
"I'm a unique person; people respect me and love my vibrant personality."
3. Use present tense, even if it's something you want to achieve in the future.
It tricks your brain into thinking it's happening now, for example, "I am" instead of "I will" or "I have" instead of "I want."
4. Choose one affirmation at a time & decide when you will dedicate time.
Set an alarm, write a note on your mirror or fridge and decide when you'll commit to repeating it. Ideally, you want to say your affirmation out loud twice a day and repeat it in your head or write it down once more.
5. Make sure the affirmation you choose is the one that will provide the greatest gains.
If you are putting the time in, you want to feel and see results.
6. Visualise what the affirmation will feel like once achieved.
Say your affirmation aloud, looking at yourself in the mirror a few times, then close your eyes and visualise what it feels like once you have achieved what your affirmation outlines.
What does it bring you? How do you feel? What success have you achieved?
7. Commit to saying your affirmation for a month and check in with how you feel.
If you have moved closer to your goal or broken your negative thought pattern, great! Keep up the good work or work on overcoming your next negative thought pattern.
If it's not working, then try a different affirmation; maybe you haven't found the right one that resonates with you.
